Careers
Statement of Intent
The purpose of the Careers Education and Guidance Programme at The Priory Ruskin Academy is to help young people to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to make well informed choices and manage transitions in learning and work. As an academy, we aim to provide our students with a skill-set that will allow them to flourish when they leave us at the end of a successful journey. The curriculum is particularly enhanced through our careers focus in the tutorial programme and via our half-termly PD Days. Sessions on career pathways and utilisation of external visitors from many different careers supports students in understanding what they need to do to reach and succeed in the careers to which they aspire. The programme is an integral part of the whole academy and incorporates both formal careers education, information, advice and guidance activities, as well as other opportunities linked to subject areas.

Careers Guidance: All students have access to a fully qualified careers advisor at the academy. Every student will receive at least one appointment before they leave the academy in Year 11, though we expect that most students will have an appointment in Year 10, and the opportunity for a follow up in Year 11. All appointments will last between 45 minutes-1 hour. Any student who would like to book a careers guidance appointment should contact their Head of Year, tutor, or a member of the careers team, who will arrange an appointment.
Unifrog: all students have access to the platform – a one stop shop for students in KS3, KS4 and KS5. Students can compare every university course, apprenticeship, and FE course in the UK as well as university courses in 30 other countries in the world. This is alongside getting access to labour market information and advice on careers and subjects for all routes. Uniforg supports students to record and evidence their key activities & competencies and prepare their CVs and personal statements alongside the teacher reference, CEIAG interactions recording and destination tracking tools - all in line with the Gatsby Benchmarks.
