T Level - Education & Early Years
EDUCATION & EARLY YEARS - ASSISTING TEACHING
If you've always dreamed of working in education, and inspiring people to achieve their full potential, this T Level could be your next step towards your dream career.
The T Level in Education and Early Years is a two-year programme, equivalent to 3 A levels.
Throughout this T Level, you will learn through classroom-based activities, as well as taking part in trips, visits, industry talks and taster events. In addition, teaching provides opportunities to develop skills through a range of active and academic learning methods.
The T Level focuses on developing the skills that prepare you for professional practice and progression into employment within early years care and education or assisting teaching with young children.
YEAR 1 CONTENT

YEAR 2 CONTENT
Classroom Based Learning:
- Performance Outcome 1 = Support the class teacher to enhance children’s education, individually and in groups
- Performance Outcome 2 = Plan, provide and review educational opportunities in collaboration with teachers and other adults
- Performance Outcome 3 = Safeguard and promote the health, safety and wellbeing of children and young people
- Performance Outcome 4 = Recognise, adapt and respond to individual children’s needs, including those with special educational needs and disability to support development and access to the curriculum
Work Placement:
- 2 full days at Huntingtower Primary School
HOW AM I ASSESSED
In Year 1, you will have 2 written exams to complete – Paper A and Paper B.
You will also have an Employer Set Project (ESP) - The purpose of this is to ensure you can apply core knowledge and skills learnt to develop a substantial piece of work in response to an employer-set brief. As part of the ESP, you must demonstrate 4 core skills…
- Communicate information clearly to engage children and young people
- Work with others to plan and provide activities
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor progress of children
- How to assess and manage risk to your own and others safety
Paper A weighting = 35% (2 hours long)
Paper B weighting = 35% (2 hours long)
Employer set project (ESP) 12 hours = 30% weighting
Subtotal = 100%
These will all be graded A* to E and U.
In Year 2, you will carry out 3 assignments…
Assignment 1: 2 hours 30 minutes – weighting 25% - controlled in classroom
Assignment 2: 4 hours 30 minutes – weighting 50% - 3 structured observations observed on placement
Assignment 3: 4 hours – weighting 25% - controlled in classroom
Subtotal = 100%
These assignments will be graded Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction*
Overall Grading
The T Level Certificate will include…
- An overall grade for the T Level (Pass, Merit, Distinction, Distinction*) – This is combined from the core and occupational specialism
- A separate grade for the core component using A* - E
- A Separate grade for the occupational specialism (Pass, Merit, Distinction, Distinction*)
